This Week In Pictures March 16

March 17, 2012

Monday night I came home from grocery shopping to find decoys hanging out on my porch.  ‘Tis the season.

Tuesday was election day.  Believe it or not Mr. MH had never voted before.  We fixed that!

Afterwards he took me to the Confederate Memorial Park nearby.

Spring is almost here.

Friday morning I had a visitor.  As I finished drying off from my shower I looked down at my towel and saw it.  He didn’t stay very long.

The day ended on a much better note.  Mr. MH took this dark picture when he heard Tim Tebow speak at the Renaissance.

So all in all it was a good week.  I hope yours was too.  Have a great weekend!

Mr. MH got a new call and wanted to see if we could get any birds to gobble Saturday.

Uhm, that would be a negative.  He said they don’t gobble very much when it’s overcast.  It was a dreary day.

If at first you don’t succeed, try again.

Let’s move on to Sunday.  Justified had a singing at 1:30 so we only had time for a quick bite to eat.  Did you know they serve 100 calorie fries at McDonald’s now?  It’s the same fries but there are only about five in the box. 🙂

Once we got to the church we hurried to set up.  The people were very nice and seemed to enjoy it.

I tried something new this week.  Since Mr. MH leaves for work at 4:15 he has an early bedtime.  I decided that I would get up and exercise in the mornings so we could have more time together in the evenings.  This is what Melody Hill looked like when I went walking Tuesday.  The bottom row of lights were reflections in the pond.

That evening when I got home we decided to drive a few miles down the road and look at the tornado damage from the Friday night before.  They had cleaned a lot of it up by then but we could still hear the hum of chainsaws when we got out of the car.  You can’t tell from the first picture but this was a house.

This little guy didn’t make it.

We were very blessed to be safe since this is only a few miles from Melody Hill.  We are thankful no lives were lost here and are praying for the families that were affected by this storm.  Take care of yourself this week.

Saturday was a beautiful sunny day.

We went to the back of the property to check out the turkey situation.

Mr. MH has seen evidence of a few birds so we put out some chicken scratch to try to keep them around until the season comes in.

We’ll see what happens. 🙂

Saturday night was another singing.  Time to unroll the cords,

set the sound,

and make the set list.

 It’s almost time to start.

We had a great time and everything went well.  Sunday was still a pretty day although it was a little cooler.  It certainly doesn’t feel like February.  Even the trees are confused.

Sunday night we had a party for my brother-in-laws birthday at Pizza Hut.

Hope you had a fun one.

Have a great weekend everyone!

This week we had homecoming at church.  Saturday was full of cooking.  I don’t have pictures for two reasons:  1) My hands were occupied most of the time.  2) It was overcast and rainy the whole day which makes it more difficult to take pictures inside.

We had a great crowd come out for singing, preaching and food Sunday despite the cold wet weather.  HisSong came about noon to set up.

That’s Adam Elrod, their tenor singer, driving.  They had been on the road all night making the ten-hour drive from a concert in Texas the night before.

Our little building was packed.

We had plenty of food though. 🙂

Some of these shots are blurry because the lighting in the church is poor and I’m not advanced enough to compensate.  Bear with me.  Here we are waiting for sound check to be done.

This is their rack and soundboard.  Pretty standard stuff.

Everyone I spoke with enjoyed the singing.  They have some really powerful songs!  Michael Frost is their new baritone and he is a great songwriter.  If you’ve never heard “That’s God” you really should check it out.  I hate to say it but this was the best picture of HisSong I got.  (I know it’s terrible.)

This week we had two birthdays in our family.  Wednesday one of my nieces turned 5.  Here are some pictures I dug up of her.

Also, my brother-in-law turned 25 Saturday.

Happy birthday to both of you!  Everyone else, have a great week.

Saturday started off with a work day at church to get ready for homecoming.  When we got home Mr. MH suggested to ride to the back of the property to see if we could spot any turkeys.  No luck.  There were a ton of baby pine trees though.  I had never seen one before and didn’t realize they just look like a tuft of pine needles coming out of the ground.

We also saw a long abandoned bird nest.  It’s pretty amazing to me how well they are constructed.

Saturday night Greater Vision was in town.

Gerald Wolfe is an incredible pianist.

Not only has Rodney Griffin written over 400 songs he also plays the bass.

Last year Mr. MH and I went to National Quartet Convention the week after his Great-Aunt Susie had a heart transplant.  We took pictures of some of her favorite groups while we were there and made a little get well surprise for her.

Now we have a picture of a very healthy Aunt Susie with Gerald Wolfe.

Sunday we went to Daddy’s again and my niece borrowed my camera.

Three feet off the ground is not a flattering angle for me.

That’s it for this week.  I hope to get some pictures of homecoming Sunday.  HisSong will be there!  Come join us.

I usually post on Saturday but this weekend was non-stop so I am late.  Last Saturday I went for my regular run and happened to find this.  Who needs a lucky penny?

It was cloudy but I made it through my run before the rain came.

When I got home the guys were working out in the barn.

Sunday means singing.  Our impromptu trio worked out their parts before the service.

Thursday night I was in the kitchen with Mr. MH making dinner.  I reached over to grab the cheese and something moved.  I screamed before I realized what it was and then I started laughing.  A baby lizard had found his way in somehow.  I wanted to get a close up but I was afraid he’d run in between the wall and the dishwasher.  He was quickly relocated to the porch. 🙂

Friday night Brian Free and Assurance came to Selma.

You’ve seen a picture of our sound board before.  This is what a professional board looks like.

They had TWO 360 players.  Oh what we would give for one.

Afterward we got to go on their bus and listen to the latest song his son wrote.  The surround sound was unbelievable!

It was a great night for the five of us gospel groupies.

Hope you have a great week.  Stay tuned for more southern gospel pictures next week.

It was another slow week.  We had a Saturday night singing.  Acoustics don’t get better than in a place like this.

I don’t know how but I’ve managed to keep this plant alive for more than two years.

We’ve had lots of warm sunny days in our forecast.

What have you been up to lately?
